project: The Online Froissart Project

The Online Froissart is a joint project based in the French Departments of the Universities of Sheffield and Liverpool. It is delivering an interactive, searchable edition of Books I-III of Jean Froissart's Chronicles, the most important prose history in French of the Hundred Years' War, covering the years 1325-1390. project: Plebeian Lives and the Making of Modern London, 1690-1800
Grant Holder:
Plebeian Lives and the Making of Modern London, 1690-1800 aims to create a digital archive of manuscript and printed sources concerning the lives of ordinary people in eighteenth-century London, focusing on poor relief, criminal justice, and medical care. It also integrates existing electronic resources, making use of recent technical advances in the analysis of multiple digital sources. The result will be a freely-available web-based resource enabling the reconstruction of ‘ordinary’ lives in the round, rather than as documented in single contacts with administrative bodies. project: PARADISEC
Grant Holder:
PARADISEC (the Pacific And Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures) offers a facility for digital conservation and access for endangered materials from the Pacific region, defined broadly to include Oceania and East and Southeast Asia. Our research group has developed models to ensure that the archive can provide access to interested communities, and conforms with emerging international standards for digital archiving. We have established a framework for accessioning, cataloguing and digitising audio, text and visual material, and preserving digital copies. [read more]
project: A critical edition of the Acts and Monuments by John Foxe

John Foxe’s famous ‘Book of Martyrs’ is a foundation text for the English Reformation. Its vision has profoundly influenced English culture. This project completes the task of making the whole of Foxe’s text available in an innovative on-line edition in which specialists and non-specialists alike can appreciate the ways in which Foxe sought to counter his critics, absorb new materials, and justify the protestant reformation to his contemporaries. In Books 1-9, Foxe put this reformation into its deeper historical, ecclesiastical and theological perspective. [read more]
The Historical Thesaurus of English is the first historical thesaurus to be compiled for any of the world's languages. It intends to include almost the entire recorded vocabulary of English from Old English to the modern period, taken from the Oxford English Dictionary and dictionaries of Old English. The distinctive, semantically-structured hierarchy of the HTE data allows scholars access to material in a uniquely flexible manner, making it an invaluable resource to historians and linguists in particular.project: The Leeds Archive of Vernacular Culture

The aim of the Leeds Archive of Vernacular Culture (LAVC) project is to unlock the full research potential of the large and varied archive of the University's former Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies, now stored in the Brotherton Library’s Special Collections, by creating an innovative electronic resource.
The core of the archive, on the dialect side, is the material generated by the well-known Survey of English Dialects, which gathered its raw materials primarily in the 1950s and 1960s. [read more]
project: Improving access to the British artists' film & video study collection

Part of the AHRB Centre for British Film and Television Studies, the British Artists' Film and Video Study Collection concentrates on the history of artists' film and video in Britain.
The British Artists' Film and Video Study Collection is a unique resource. It consists of a number of extensive collections of material with acquisitions from Arts Council of England, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Film and Video Umbrella and many individual artists. [read more]
project: Inscriptions of Aphrodisias project

The aim is to publish as many as possible of the Greek inscriptions from Aphrodisias in Caria online, in order both to provide far fuller documentation than a book allows, and to meet the problems of the dissemination of expensive publications.
In so doing, we aim to develop and establish technological standards (using TEI compliant XML) which other epigraphers can use; we are trying to discuss the project with as many experts as possible, in the UK, US and Europe.
