project: Aphrodisias in Late Antiquity (2004)

This publication is the online second edition of a printed book, which first appeared in 1989, but was out of print: it incorporates new material found since 1989. The resource presents 250 inscribed texts from the 3rd-6th century, found at the ancient site of Aphrodisias in Caria (south-west Turkey): it includes extensive explanatory material and discussions, with detailed indices of people. The existence of the book makes it possible to compare the two ways of presenting the material. [read more]

A project to produce a detailed line-by-line bibliographical database on Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival; from this database is constituted a line-by-line commentary on the poem. The first edition of the Stellenbibliographie zum "Parzival" Wolframs von Eschenbach für die Jahrgänge 1984-1996, was published by Niemeyer Verlag (Tübingen) on CD-ROM in 2002. [read more]
project: AsChart: Anglo-Saxon Charters (AsChart )
Grant Holder:
The project aimed to provide historians with new ways of interrogating Anglo-Saxon charters and it resulted in the publication of charters written in Anglo-Saxon England before A.D. 900. The project explored the benefits of using an XML markup model based on the Text Encoding Initiative Guidelines and specifically tailored to the requirements of historians or literary scholars interested in Anglo-Saxon charters. project: CESAR a comprehensive online repository of French Theatre resources in the 17th and 18th centuries

The primary aim was to produce a single, coherent listing of all known theatre and related performances in France between 1600 and 1800, searchable by date, title, location, genre and by the names of the people involved in whatever capacity. The database was to have an interactive web interface. The second aim was to make the entire structure bi-directional, i.e. to take advantage of the same web interface to permit members of the international scholarly community, after a simple registration procedure, to annotate, comment upon, extend and correct any field in the database. HESTIA provides a new approach towards conceptions of space in the ancient world, supported by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
Combining a variety of different methods, it examines the ways in which space is represented in Herodotus' History, in terms of places mentioned and geographic features described. [read more]

In 2004, the Centre for Computing in the Humanities began a pilot project in collaboration with the Department of Spanish and Spanish-American studies at King’s College London to explore the extent to which some of the traditional scholarly research activities associated with an academic department could be represented using an XML-based architecture. project: Greek Bible in Byzantine Judaism (GBBJ )

The project's mandate is to gather evidence for the use of Greek Bible translations by Jews in the Middle Ages, to edit and publish these remains, to subject them to linguistic analysis, and to compare them with other Greek biblical texts, earlier, contemporary and later. the corpus developed by the project comprises the exact remains of Jewish Greek Bible versions, edited from manuscripts. project: Person Data Repository of the 19th Century
Grant Holder:
The project “Construction of a repository for biographical data on historical persons of the 19th century” – short form: Person Data Repository – enhances the existing approaches to data integration and electronically supported research in biographies. It investigates connecting and presenting heterogeneous information on persons of the “long nineteenth century” (1789–1914). The project's aim is to provide a de-central software system for research institutions, universities, archives, and libraries that allows combined access on biographic information from different data pools. project: Schenker Documents Online
Grant Holder:
The twentieth century's leading theorist of tonal music, Heinrich Schenker produced a series of innovative studies and editions between 1903 and 1935 and left behind a voluminous archive of correspondence, diaries and lessonbooks. Edited in near-diplomatic transcription and with English translations, these materials form the core of the edition, supported by additional documents relating to his life, and a set of "profiles" of people, places and organizations with which he came into contact.
