eventresources: Word Frequency and Keyword Extraction

Report from the Methods Network seminar hosted by Tony McEnery, Department of Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster University (8 September 2005).

Word frequency has come to prominence as the availability of corpora has grown. Word frequency, and a focus upon relative word frequency through keyword analysis, are enabled by the availability of large quantities of machine readable text and appropriate searching software. However the approach to word frequency has changed in recent years to become more central to linguistic theory and to various applications of linguistics.

project: TAPoR: Text Analysis Portal for Research

Grant Holder:
TAPoR is a gateway to tools for sophisticated analysis and retrieval, along with representative texts for experimentation. TAPoR has built a unique human and computing infrastructure for text analysis across Canada by establishing six regional centers to form one national text analysis research network. One of the major projects of the network was the development of the portal. project: Sound and Metre in Italian Medieval and Renaissance Narrative Verse

Grant Holder: Professor David Robey
An on-line database containing an exact, detailed and systematic representation of the sound and metre of the major narrative poems of the Italian Middle Ages and Renaissance. The database provides a firm evidence base for the analysis, comparison and interpretation of specific structures, and combinations of structures, across a substantial corpus of related poetic texts. It also aims to develop and test the capacity of computer-based processes to serve the purposes of literary scholarship. [read more]
