project: A Vision of Britain through Time

This website presents the history of Great Britain through places between 1801 and 2001. It includes maps, statistical trends, a gazetteer of British administrative units, on-line versions of a selection of tables and early printed text from some of the published Census Reports as well as historical descriptions of places and journeys. The site is free to use and does not require any registration. [read more]
project: InView: Moving Images in the Public Sphere
Grant Holder:
InView is an in-depth resource which shows, through the juxtaposition and contextualisation of a range of materials, how public issues ‘play out’ across the media. A thematic approach illustrates how different producers and distributors of moving image content provide different voices and perspectives within national social, cultural and economic debates.
The main objective of the project has been to provide access to 600 hours of digitised archive video, documents and associated resources for the enhancement of learning, teaching and research within the areas of the arts and humanities. [read more]
project: Cabinet Papers, 1915-1977
Grant Holder:
The Cabinet Papers Project aimed to provide an online resource for learning and research that would make The National Archives’ holdings of the Cabinet Papers available to the public, and in particular to Higher Education and A-level students. The National Archives is now able to provide an entire collection of searchable digitised images of the Cabinet Papers to users of the site as well as providing relevant information and study guidance for both teachers and students of British 20th century history. project: First World War Poetry Digital Archive
Grant Holder:
The First World War Poetry Digital Archive is an online repository of over 7000 items of text, images, audio, and video for teaching, learning, and research.
The heart of the archive consists of collections of highly valued primary material from major poets of the period, including Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg, Robert Graves, Vera Brittain, and Edward Thomas. This is supplemented by a comprehensive range of multimedia artefacts from the Imperial War Museum, a separate archive of over 6,500 items contributed by the general public, and a set of specially developed educational resources. project: Embedding GeoCrossWalk
Grant Holder:
The Embedding GeoCrossWalk project sought to provide a deeper understanding of how references to place in structured texts can be researched and automatically extracted.
The project aims were threefold. Firstly it sought to deploy the Geoparser tool, developed previously by the Language Technology Group of Edinburgh University's School of Informatics, to georeference the Stormont Papers, using Natural language Processing (NLP). [read more]

Grant Holder: Dr Elton Barker
HESTIA provides a new approach towards conceptions of space in the ancient world, supported by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
Combining a variety of different methods, it examines the ways in which space is represented in Herodotus' History, in terms of places mentioned and geographic features described. [read more]
project: East London Theatre Archive (ELTA)
Grant Holder:
The East London Theatre Archive provides online access to resources of music hall and variety theatres in London's East End during the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries. Around 15,000 items are digitised and described, with supporting material commissioned to provide historical context. Resources come from the collections of V&A Theatre Collections, University of East London and parter organisations. The Centre for e-Research has created a repository to preserve the digital objects over time, and a bespoke website to allow access to the entire resource by researchers and the general public.
