project: Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi (Phase II: Enhancing Stained Glass Studies)

The Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi (CVMA) is an international survey of stained glass. CVMA in Great Britain has so far published one hundred printed volumes to date in addition to the online publications which include a substantial image archive; a prototype digital publication of the stained glass in Norfolk; and an online magazine called 'Vidimus' (available at http://vidimus.org). Phase I of the CVMA digital publication project provided access to a digital Picture Archive, containing nearly 18,000 images of medieval stained glass. [read more]

project: Centre for the History and Analysis of Recorded Music

Aims to promote the study of music as performance through a specific focus on recordings. Its activities include a major discographic project, seminars and research projects. Traditionally, music has been studied as a text reproduced in performance - almost as if it were an obscure kind of literature. By placing performance at the centre of musicology - by promoting a musicology based on recordings and not just scores - CHARM aims to reduce the gulf between musicology and the listener. project: Jonathan Swift Archive

Grant Holder: Professor James McLaverty
The Jonathan Swift Archive makes available a searchable, digitized collection of texts of Swift’s prose from a great variety of early editions. The texts collected in the archive are documentary transcriptions of Swift's writings as they appear in their original printed editions. The aim has been to include first editions, and, wherever there has been authorial correction, emendation, revision, or alteration to the text in subsequent lifetime editions, to add transcriptions of these later witnesses. project: The Correspondence of Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737-1814)

Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737–1814) was a major figure of the late Enlightenment in France, author of the best-selling novel Paul et Virginie (1788) which was first published as part of a much longer philosophical text, the Études de la Nature (1784). [read more]

project: Electronic corpus of Lute music (ECOLM) II

Grant Holder: Professor Geraint Wiggins
ECOLM is a web-accessible user-friendly digital scholarly resource centred around the musicology of the lute. By means of a guided interface, it supplies professional and amateur users with effective and efficient search methods (using words or music as queries) over a database comprising over 2000 pieces of lute music, which can be retrieved, viewed in tablature and (given a suitable computer) played back, without the need to understand specialist computer code. project: Mapping the medieval urban landscape: Edward I's 'new towns' of England and Wales

This project employed modern spatial technologies to explore how towns were formed in the middle ages. Its focus was on a group of 'new towns' established in England and Wales in the later thirteenth century during the reign of King Edward I. [read more]

project: A critical edition of the Acts and Monuments by John Foxe

Grant Holder: Mike Pidd
John Foxe’s famous ‘Book of Martyrs’ is a foundation text for the English Reformation. Its vision has profoundly influenced English culture. This project completes the task of making the whole of Foxe’s text available in an innovative on-line edition in which specialists and non-specialists alike can appreciate the ways in which Foxe sought to counter his critics, absorb new materials, and justify the protestant reformation to his contemporaries. In Books 1-9, Foxe put this reformation into its deeper historical, ecclesiastical and theological perspective. [read more]

project: Gendering Latin American Independence: Women's Political Culture and the Textual Construction of Gender 1790-1850

The aim is to rethink Latin American Independence in terms of gender. The project consists of three lines of enquiry: the study of women’s political culture, women’s writings, and the textual construction of gender in literary and political discourse. Research Questions: The project is a textual and historical study that investigates the ideas and activities of women who, as a social group, contributed to the making of public culture in early nineteenth-century Latin America but were largely excluded from it. project: The Scottish Parliament Project

The Scottish Parliament Project, based at the University of St Andrews, was set up in 1997 with funding from the Scottish Office, and has since received its funding from the Scottish Executive and a number of academic funding bodies. Its main task has been to create a new online edition of the acts of the pre-1707 Scottish Parliament (c.16,000,000 words), the Records of the Parliaments of Scotland to 1707 (RPS), with a parallel translation of the original Latin, French, Gaelic and Scots into standard searchable English.
