Purpose: 

A data management tool for the storage and presentation of text, images and spatial data. It has been built upon the principles of the world wide web, enabling researchers to configure the system, input or upload new content, manipulate existing content and make it available access through a web browser. ToadHMS (The Oxford ArchDigital Heritage Management System) was developed in PHP and can be integrated with a number of database back-end systems, including MySQL and SQL Server. It uses open source tools, such as ImageMagick to automate data management tasks.

The RISM project has used the software to catalogue and present music manuscripts of the 17th and 18th centuries in the UK and Ireland.

The Worcestershire On-line Ceramic Database has used the software to catalogue pottery found on archaeological sites in Worcestershire. Records contain photographs of the pottery, accompanied by descriptive metadata on the fabric (clay type and inclusions), manufacture, forms, source, distribution and estimated date of creation (http://www.worcestershireceramics.org/).

The Portable Antiques scheme has used the software to enable members of the public to record archaeological objects found in England and Wales (http://www.findsdatabase.org.uk/hms/).
