project: Cataloguing the Papers of Wilfred Ward (1856-1916)

The Papers of the Roman Catholic Modernist movement held in St Andrews University Library are of central importance to the study of Roman Catholic theology in the late nineteenth and early 20th century. Amongst the group, the papers of Wilfrid Ward (1856-1916) are of great importance. Prior to this project, they were the only element of the broader collection which did not benefit from internet-deliverable detailed listing. [read more]
project: Palaeopathology and the origins and evolution of horse husbandry

A collaborative, interdisciplinary project, rooted in archaeology and employing veterinary science to identify osteological differences between riding, traction and free-living horses, resulting from their different life-ways, in order to further our understanding of the origins and evolution of horse husbandry. Two analytical methods are employed:
1) A detailed comparative study of skeletons from a wide range of sources, both modern and ancient. We are examining samples from 3 populations of modern horses (free-living Exmoor ponies, Lithuanian draught horses, and riding ponies. [read more]
project: Silchester insula IX

The project's aim is the capture, storage and manipulation of data from a long-term archaeological excavation (1997 and continuing) of insula ix of the Iron Age and Roman town of Silchester, Hampshire (Calleva Atrebatum). The data comprise a variety of linked excavation and finds records which are stored on the Integrated Archaeological Database (IADB). The latter is a key tool for the post-excavation analysis of this complex, stratified site for which publication is planned in both printed and web-based formats. [read more]
