The Research Computing unit at UNC-Chapel Hill is seeking a Humanities Research Associate to provide technical leadership to spearhead our engagement with faculty researchers in the humanities. This position will be a technical contributor and a partner in defining, implementing and supporting technologies to advance humanities research at UNC-Chapel Hill. The research associate will provide programming and technical expertise in areas such as text encoding and metadata standards, database design and queries, software development, web programming, and digital project design.

project: Weaving communities of practice. Textiles, culture and identity in the Andes: a semiotic and ontological approach.

Research in Bolivia, Peru and Chile, combined with museum research there and in the UK, focuses on Bolivia, Peru, and Chile on the basis of previous ethnographic, archaeological and museological knowledge and contacts, and three time horizons: Tiwanaku, the Inka-early colony, and the contemporary. project: Capabilities and wellbeing: operationalising the capabilities framework

The study was funded by an innovation award and sought to explore the extent to which philosophical ideas about the capabilities approach to develop an instrument for measuring human capabilities – or freedoms. Using a normative framework based on the work of Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum a survey instrument was developed piloted and then sent out to about 1000 adults in the UK. [read more]
